Fear Of Assassination: Sara Netanyahu requests for 2 Israeli jets to escort her Husband's plane
Recent reports have emerged regarding an unusual security request made by Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, she requested that two Israeli Air Force jets escort her husband's plane upon his return from the United States last month. This request appears to stem from concerns about potential retaliation linked to the operation that targeted Nasrallah and other senior Hezbollah leaders during a meeting in a fortified bunker.
According to a report by The Israel Times, the airstrike, codenamed "New Order," was a significant military operation that involved the deployment of over 80 bombs, including heavy-duty U.S.-made 2,000-pound bunker buster bombs. Reports suggest that the Prime Minister's office initially sought a full escort for Netanyahu’s entire flight back from the U.S., but this request was denied by the Israeli Air Force due to standard operational protocols.
However, a more focused request for an escort during the final leg of the journey was ultimately approved. This led to two F-35 fighter jets accompanying Netanyahu's official aircraft as it approached Israeli airspace, enhancing the security around the prime minister during a potentially volatile time.
The aircraft used by Prime Minister Netanyahu, referred to as the ‘Wing of Zion,’ is already equipped with advanced anti-missile defense systems, underscoring the high level of security typically provided to the prime minister during flights. Despite the heightened security measures, the Prime Minister's Office sought to publicize the F-35 escort by requesting a photograph, which the Israeli Air Force denied. They instructed the jets to maintain a position behind the premier's plane to prevent any photo opportunities that could be leveraged for publicity.
In response to the reports, the Prime Minister's Office firmly denied any claims regarding additional security measures for Netanyahu’s flight, labeling the allegations as ‘utter fake news.’ This denial comes amidst growing scrutiny and speculation about the level of threat facing the prime minister following the recent escalation with Hezbollah.
On the other hand, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) took a neutral position, neither confirming nor denying the details surrounding the escort request. They emphasized that security for the prime minister’s plane is determined by standard assessments and regulations, highlighting the complexity of managing security protocols during such sensitive situation
